The longer we look at our own ms the less we are able to see it. At least that has been my experience.

RebeccaRadish Kinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06534752971317927559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9144957.post-6900216592033883832009-10-06T14:00:35.337-07:002009-10-06T14:00:35.337-07:00there is a lot of truth to this. the market is so ...there is a lot of truth to this. the market is so competitive. you have to do everything you can to make yourself stand out :)Jessie Cartyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13181286764480973423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9144957.post-82323418291081330642009-10-06T11:43:38.608-07:002009-10-06T11:43:38.608-07:00Yes, extra effort might get you past the pack in a...Yes, extra effort might get you past the pack in a contest, or with a publisher. When I hired an editor who does it for a living, the difference was absolutely clear. I won't rely just on poet friends anymore to fine-tune.Rachel Dacushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15754712503067644226noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9144957.post-90395793834519663442009-10-06T05:49:00.252-07:002009-10-06T05:49:00.252-07:00Contest or not, it seems to me (a practicing poet)...Contest or not, it seems to me (a practicing poet), you would ALWAYS want your ms to be its best, typo-free, strongest choices and order of poems, etc.). There's plenty wrong with contests, but extra effort and getting help make sense anytime. Surely you show your individual poems to trusted friends, colleagues, etc.Greghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08938982547205925913noreply@blogger.com
